As a passionate natural-light photographer from Ridderkerk, I — Margot van der Wal — place family photography at the heart of my work. I work with natural light because I believe photography is writing with light: the soft daylight gives children, babies and newborns a dreamy, timeless quality. As a perfectionist I take great care with both the photoshoot and the post-processing in Photoshop, so that each image is right in composition, lighting and emotion. How I work: I create a relaxed atmosphere where children are free to be themselves. With small playful tricks, songs and gentle jokes I involve parents actively in the session — often the most spontaneous, sincere moments emerge this way. For newborns and babies, safety and comfort are my top priorities; my training at the Fotovakschool and workshops with Ilonka Stuijvenberg have taught me safe posing and responsible handling of the very youngest.
