I am Marloes Chater, a Hilversum-based photographer with a deep passion for family photography. My approach is documentary and natural: I look for the small, often unnoticed moments that together form your family’s story. Whether it’s a quiet morning at home with a newborn, a playful afternoon in the woods with the children, or simple family portraits at your favorite spot, my images feel honest and familiar. Families and children relax best in their own surroundings, which is why I love photographing at home where life happens. Outdoor locations are also welcome; together we choose a place that suits your family. My work focuses on atmosphere, emotion, and timelessness so the images still speak to you years from now. How I work: first we get in touch and discuss your wishes — no lengthy briefings, just a short meeting so I understand what matters to you. During the shoot I keep the mood calm and relaxed; often we walk a little, play with the children, or simply act as if there’s no camera. Natural moments arise that way. I primarily work with natural light and simple settings; this creates calm in the frame and keeps the attention on the people. What drives me is memory and connection. The idea that my photos will later return in albums, on walls, or in digital spaces and evoke that same warmth is the most rewarding part of my work. Besides families, I also create portraits and help entrepreneurs with images for their websites and social media, but family and children’s photography remains my speciality.
