I am Nienke Koedijk, a documentary family photographer based in Haarlem. My work is about collecting the small, pure moments that later become a lifetime of memories. Rather than posed portraits, I look for what really happens: the hugs, the unexpected glances, the everyday rituals. I tell those stories in images that breathe love, connection and authenticity. Why do families choose me? Because I work from calm and attention. During a Day-in-the-Life session I stay in the background so you can be yourselves. My aim is that at the end of the day you don’t feel like you had a photoshoot, but that you have a record of your life. Especially with young children and newborns, this approach often produces the most moving and valuable photographs: unforced interactions, details and gestures that later bring comfort and joy. My approach is personal and practical. We always have a short introduction beforehand—sometimes by video, sometimes by phone—so everyone feels at ease. During the session I leave room for your rhythm: at home, on the beach or during a favourite activity. I photograph in a documentary style: no directing, but a careful eye for composition, light and emotion. After the shoot I deliver thoughtfully edited images that tell the story of that day clearly and honestly. In addition to photographing families, I offer workshops and mentorships for photographers who want to learn to work from intuition and storytelling. These lessons are designed for colleagues who wish to strengthen their own voice, and I’m proud to support photographers internationally. As a mother I know how quickly time passes and how precious those small moments are.
